There is lots going on in and around Barnard Castle to encourage you to get out walking.
Every Tuesday morning a Walking for Health walk is run from Teesdale Leisure Centre. Walks are about an hour.
For toddlers and children there is Bright Woods Forest School – a community interest community using play and exploration in the outdoors to allow children to grow and learn.
Teesdale University of the Third Age (U3A) has three walking groups, aiming to please as many interests as possible. Choose from the Fell Walking Group, Goldilocks Walking Group and the Shorter Walks Group.
The Barnard Castle Ramblers Association also holds walks for different abilities in and around the area.
Alston Walkers are Welcome host regular walks in the North Pennines AONB. It is a little way from Barnard Castle well worth the visit for the upland landscape. https://walkalstonmoor.com/2017-guided-walks-programme/.
Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome, 25 minutes from Barney, also host regular walks. The market town is a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and has plenty going on.
If you forget any kit pop into 54 Degrees North at 9 Galgate. They stock a range of walking and outdoors equipment and will be happy to help you out.
If you come across any issues on footpaths or bridleways please contact Durham County Council’s Rights of Way team through the online reporting system.
