Eat, drink, shop and stay

Barnard Castle and Teesdale has a wide variety of places to stay from self-catering gems, to country hotels, to B&Bs to camping site. There is plenty of choice on This Is Durham’s accommodation page. We also have a great choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs to rest and recuperate in. Just walking around town you will see lots of choice on offer. In particular the following pubs and cafes offer a very warm welcome to walkers.

The Three Horseshoes

A stone’s throw away from the majestic River Tees, the historic Castle and a ten minute walk from the Bowes Museum, the Three Horseshoes offers every modern comfort, with luxurious rooms, a warm welcome, good food and a friendly atmosphere. There are excellent facilities for walks and cyclists, who will be delighted with the choice of paths routes immediately accessible in this picturesque area. There is free parking in the hotel’s car park.

Clarendon’s

Clarendon’s is a traditional cafe with a contemporary feel, on two floors, right in the centre of the town. We pride ourselves on tasty, home-cooked cuisine, supporting local producers, because we believe that’s how business should be done. We have a reputation for excellent service and we really do welcome walkers, as well as other visitors and our many local regulars. We also have a stylish gift shop with lots of great ideas for gifts of all kinds.
