We also have a great choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs to rest and recuperate in. Just walking around town you will see lots of choice on offer. The Three Horseshoes
A stone’s throw away from the majestic River Tees, the historic Castle and a ten minute walk from the Bowes Museum, the Three Horseshoes offers every modern comfort, with luxurious rooms, a warm welcome, good food and a friendly atmosphere. There are excellent facilities for walks and cyclists, who will be delighted with the choice of paths routes immediately accessible in this picturesque area. There is free parking in the hotel’s car park.
The Old Well Inn
A traditional, welcoming inn, close by the castle walls, where you will find real ales, great food and comfortable B&B accommodation. We have 10 ensuite rooms, a cosy restaurant specialising in authentic Indian food and a delightful beer garden. Our Sunday roasts are truly scrumptious and will satisfy any appetite. We are also a convenient “pit-stop” for a snack, light lunch or takeaway for your walk or a cup of tea and a cake at the end of a day exploring beautiful Teesdale. A small but very friendly, independent cafe, we pride ourselves on excellent coffee and a tempting range of sandwiches, wholesome soups and light lunches. All our food is prepared freshly on the premises from locally sourced produce and there is always something that little bit different for you to try, be it a tagine, spicy stew or homemade pie. We are also happy to provide packed lunches and takeaway drinks to order for walkers.

You’ll find a very warm welcome for walkers from all of us at No 8 The Bank cafe and restaurant, just down from the Market Cross on Amen Corner. We have seating at tables both inside the cafe and outside. Take your pick from a selection of breakfasts, light lunches, sandwiches and truly wonderful cakes, scones, teas and coffees – or maybe a full 3-tier afternoon tea. If you’re a walker, cyclist or just visiting the town for a look around, please come and see us for good food and attentive and professional service at all times. We are a dog-friendly cafe and even have a special menu for dogs to ensure your pet has a great time too.

Teesdale Community Resource’s The Hub is a unique facility for the whole community, just a short walk from Barnard Castle town centre. We offer an amazing range of resources and activities, from music, dance and fitness groups, outdoor activities to meeting rooms and even a serene spa. Our bright and modern cafe is open Mondays to Thursdays 3pm – 7pm and Saturdays 9am – 2pm, serving a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches and snacks (chocolate brownie and green tea anyone?). Groups may book the cafe space by contacting the reception team. We have 5 bright, well-furnished and reasonably priced bedrooms, with 3 to 8 beds each and a camping area, which are ideal for visiting walking or activity groups. Wifi is available throughout the centre.

Slightly further afield in Eggleston is Eggleston Hall.
Our cafe and tearoom is set in the beautiful and secluded grounds of Eggleston Hall, alongside the prestigious Eggleston Hall Gardens plant nursery and is an ideal refreshment stop, whether you are enjoying one of our several lovely, local walks or a scenic drive up the dale. Everything is home-made and locally-sourced wherever possible, so please join us for breakfast, light lunch or afternoon tea and enjoy a freshly-made scone or cake and one of our range of speciality teas and coffees. Opening times: March to October 10am – 4.30pm and November to February 10am – 4pm.
