Eat, Drink and Stay

Barnard Castle and Teesdale has a wide variety of places to stay from self-catering gems, to country hotels, to B&Bs to camping site. There is plenty of choice on This Is Durham’s accommodation page. We also have a great choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs to rest and recuperate in. Just walking around town you will see lots of choice on offer. In particular the following pubs and cafes offer a very warm welcome to walkers.

The Three Horseshoes

A stone’s throw away from the majestic River Tees, the historic Castle and a ten minute walk from the Bowes Museum, the Three Horseshoes offers every modern comfort, with luxurious rooms, a warm welcome, good food and a friendly atmosphere. There are excellent facilities for walks and cyclists, who will be delighted with the choice of paths routes immediately accessible in this picturesque area. There is free parking in the hotel’s car park.

The Old Well Inn

A traditional, welcoming inn, close by the castle walls, where you will find real ales, great food and comfortable B&B accommodation. We have 10 ensuite rooms, a cosy restaurant specialising in authentic Indian food and a delightful beer garden. Our Sunday roasts are truly scrumptious and will satisfy any appetite. We are also a convenient “pit-stop” for a snack, light lunch or takeaway for your walk or a cup of tea and a cake at the end of a day exploring beautiful Teesdale. We welcome walkers and will do whatever we can to make your visit to Barney as memorable as it can be.
